The City of Barrie is reducing administrative delays and improving the experience for customers by expanding its electronic payment options for development-related fees. This initiative is part of the Housing Accelerator Fund Action Plan, which supports initiatives to increase housing supply in Barrie.
Effective immediately, applicants can pay all development-related fees—including planning application fees, development charges and building permit fees—electronically. Previously, electronic options were only supported for payments up to $5,000; this expansion allows for larger payments to be processed electronically.
“This is a big step toward creating administrative efficiencies to support housing development in Barrie,” said Mayor Nuttall. “By making it easier to pay large development fees, we’re removing barriers to help get much needed housing built faster.”
Key details of the expanded payment system include:
- All development-related payments (no matter the amount) can now be made electronically via wire or electronic funds transfer.
- Payees can email receivables@barrie.ca to receive instructions for wire or electronic funds transfers.
- The credit card limit has also increased from $5,000 to $10,000; credit cart payments are still processed through APLI, the City's online application tool.
- Cheques are still accepted via mail or in person at Service Barrie.
