City unveils online map detailing streets named after local veterans

Map based off research from local high school

The City of Barrie has introduced a new way for us to learn a little bit more about the city’s history and the veterans that shaped it.

Many routes throughout the city are named after veterans. Previously, the best indicator of that was to look for a poppy on the street name. Now, you can check a new interactive map.

City Hall has unveiled a new online resource that shows the streets across Barrie named in honour of local soldiers. Through this map, residents can learn about these local military members, including thier rank and memorial location. The map contains names of those who fought in the South African War through to present day.
