City of Barrie residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and help beautify local neighbourhoods by joining Clean and Green Barrie, the city-wide spring cleanup initiative running from Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22) through Sunday, April 26. Registered participants receive cleanup supplies and instructions for bag drop-off and collection.
“Clean and Green Barrie offers a fantastic opportunity for residents to unite and help keep our neighbourhoods, schools, parks, and trails free of litter that has built up over the winter,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “I encourage everyone to take part in this initiative and help protect and enhance Barrie’s natural beauty.”
School Participation Days: Wednesday, April 22 to Friday, April 24
Elementary and high school students are encouraged to clean up their school property and local parklands. After registering, schools will receive enough garbage bags and gloves for students to help clean up their schoolyard and surrounding public areas.

Community & Business Cleanup Days: Wednesday, April 22 to Sunday, April 26
Residents are invited to clean up a local public space such as a neighbourhood park, ravine, or trail. Community groups, teams, neighbourhood associations, individuals, and families are encouraged to participate. Businesses can participate by registering to clean up a local public space—such as a ravine, trail, or park—near their workplace.
Clean and Green Barrie is a community-wide initiative that inspires residents and businesses to take pride in the places they live, work, and play by joining together to keep our city clean. The event raises environmental awareness and promotes social responsibility through hands-on participation—both during the event and beyond. Last year, more than 8,500 participants came together to collect more than 700 kg of litter from across the city.
