C.O.P.E Service Dogs invite you to a night of belly laughs and belly rubs.

They're hosting a Funny Bone comedy night on February 1st to support their organization, which raises and trains support dogs for people with mobility issues.

Organizers promise a hilarious night of comedy hosted by Andrea Murray.

Two-time Canadian Comedy Award Winner Sandra Battaglini and Jen Sakato will be dishing out the laughs, and some of C.O.P.E.'S canines will be there to dish out the cuteness.

Board Member Tracey Baker says it costs $30,000 to raise and train a COPE service dog from birth to age 2.

Baker says a puppy's first year of training is spent with a student at a school for the "Canine's in the Classroom" program.

"The students that train them are at risk of not graduating and might be dealing with possibly physical or mental health issues. Knowing a dog is waiting for them at school helps motivate them to get out of bed in the morning and go to school," she says. Adding, "We are thrilled that 92% of the students in the program graduate.

During their second year, the dogs undergo refinement training, learning upwards of 90 commands before being placed with their forever person or facility.

The February 1st event takes place at Michael and Marion's in Barrie.
