Cops perform so-called tandem stop and charge Innisfil man with impaired

Minor damage to police cruiser

The public aided South Simcoe Police by calling in a suspected impaired driver on Sunday afternoon.

Officers spotted a vehicle being driven erratically and at high speed in the area of Yonge Street and Killarney Beach Road. Police caught up to the vehicle when it stopped at a red light at Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road. With one cruiser behind the vehicle, a second cop car pulled in front of it to prevent a pursuit. As officers approached the vehicle on foot, it reversed and collided with the cruiser behind it.

The driver was taken into custody and examined by a drug recognition expert. As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old Innisfil man was charged with impaired operation by drug. His licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded. There was minor damage done to the cruiser but no one was injured.
