A stopover in Springwater Township by the CPKC Holiday Train is back on track.

The annual visit by the Holiday Train to Springwater was cancelled last fall, as the Township cited safety concerns about parking and the growing number of people attending the event.

The year-long delay allowed officials to work through those issues.

The train arrives at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, at Anne Street North and Wenden Court.

General parking is available at Tree Nursery Sports Park, 2231 Nursery Road. Attendees must follow on-site parking signs to the designated areas. Parking is available at the following locations:

  • Tree Nursery Sports Park (2231 Nursery Road)
  • Simcoe County District School Board (1170 ON-26)
  • Simcoe County Museum (1151 ON-26)
  • County of Simcoe (1110 ON-26)

Accessible shuttles will operate continuously between Tree Nursery Sports Park and the event area. The public is asked to follow the posted signs in the parking lot for shuttle pickup and for return service after the show.

A designated walking path connects the parking areas to the event site.

Anne Street North will be closed for the duration of the event to accommodate pedestrian traffic and ensure safe viewing.

The public must stay off the tracks and away from rail equipment and the railway right-of-way at all times, and only cross at marked public crossings.

The Holiday Train travels across Canada and the United States. At each stop, there are musical acts, and donations are collected for local food banks.

"Since its inaugural journey in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised more than $26 million and collected approximately 5.4 million pounds of food for community food banks," the railway company said in a news release.
