Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid a total of 37 criminal charges against two men following numerous thefts in Collingwood between Dec. 24 and Dec 26.
"Several items were taken from unlocked vehicles including gift cards, cash, bank cards and tools. At one point during their bout of theft, the suspects stole a vehicle & used stolen cards to pay for fuel. In total, 19 incidents were investigated," police said in a news release.
OPP say officers spotted the suspects while patrolling in Collingwood. One man fled on foot while the other was being arrested. During the arrest, an officer was allegedly assaulted. The second suspect was located a short time later.
A 33-year-old from Orillia and a 30-year-old from Collingwood have been charged with the following:
- Theft Under $5000
- Take Motor Vehicle without consent
- Use of Credit Card
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime
- Possession of Proceeds obtained by Crime
- Assault a Peace Officer
- Flight from Police
Both men were held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday.
