A southeast Barrie neighbourhood became a beehive of police activity as tactical team officers and the 'Rescue 1' armoured vehicle converged on a Danielle Crescent home after a report of a man armed with a crossbow.

Police say they had received a call from a male Thursday afternoon who discovered his stolen snowmobile for sale on a social media platform.

"As he waited out front of the residence for police, a male from within the home exited and armed with a crossbow, pointed it at the victim," police said in a news release on Friday.

The male contacted police again and the homeowner was taken into custody a short time later.

Further investigation, according to police, revealed the snowmobile had been stolen in a previous break and enter.

A search warrant was executed shortly after midnight on Friday at the home where the snowmobile was believed to be, and it was located, along with a crossbow.

A 31-year-old has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The suspect has a court date next month.
