The City of Barrie is participating in Culture Days, a Canada-wide celebration of arts and culture taking place from September 20 to October 13. This year’s programming features an interactive three-week schedule of free, accessible and behind the scenes experiences.
Culture Days kicks off this weekend with a celebration in Meridian Place:
Open Air Meridian, Saturday, September 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Meridian Place, 30 Simcoe St.
Featuring:
- Islamic Cultural Creativ-TEA Mosaic (10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) – Experience henna art on your hand, Arabic Calligraphy keepsakes of your name and making beaded bracelets.
- All in Line: MacLaren (10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) –Create your own artwork that will be a part of a community exhibition in the MacLaren’s Rotary Education Centre.
- Weaving Our Community (11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) – Work together to weave large circular webs to showcase interconnectedness we share through an inheritance from our past and our intention for the future. Inspired by Métis Artist Tracey Mae Chambers' Hope and Healing works (#hopeandhealingcanada).
- Nature’s Threads (2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.) – Join Ebru Winegard, a Turkish-Canadian mixed-media artist, graphic designer, photographer, and filmmaker for weaving sessions, activities and discussions celebrating diversity, unity, and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Other events include Create Mini Terrariums with Selina Pizza (Sept. 21); Culture Night Out (Sept. 26); Bookbinding Workshop (Sept. 28); Fall Native Plant Sale + Native Seed & Plant Collage Workshop (Oct. 2); Honouring Joey Hollingsworth: In Tap Dance and conversation (Oct. 5); Animations: A Dance Improvisation Performance (Oct. 5); Indigenous Mini Drum-Making Workshop & Knowledge Sharing (Oct. 6) and Discover, Draw, Dance (Oct. 12).
