South Simcoe Police have laid charges following an investigation into damage caused by an excavator that struck the bridge at Highway 400 and Innisfil Beach Road on January 24.

Damage to several support beams resulted in the bridge being closed for repairs.

A 65-year-old Innisfil man has been charged with failing to remain, failing to report damage to highway property, and having an overheight vehicle.

The bridge has since reopened to traffic.
