If you are on holiday over the next week, Peter Kimbell, an Environment Canada Emergency Preparedness Meteorologist, says this is fantastic weather.
Dry, sunny conditions with moderate humidity are expected through Sunday. Kimbell says the next chance of any measurable precipitation isn't likely until a week from Monday night into Tuesday, and that is not a sure thing.
He says the extended period of sunshine is due to what they call an Omega Block, which is where the jet stream gets into a pattern where it doesn't change very much. In other words, it's stalled.
While the sunshine is perfect for cottaging, camping and outdoor activities, it does pose a concern for those in the agriculture business and the risk of forest fires.
Ontario Forest Fires tweeted on Monday that the forest fire hazard in Ontario is high to extreme. Most of the wildfires that are burning are in northern and northwestern Ontario.
The forest fire hazard in #Ontario is high to extreme! Warm weather continues to increase the forest fire hazard. Check your local municipality for burning restrictions. To report a forest fire, call 310-FIRE (3473). If you are south of the French and Mattawa Rivers, call 911. pic.twitter.com/jrDaVXALsO

The Barrie area has had a rainfall deficit this month.
Kimbell says the average rainfall total for May in the Barrie area is about 82 mm and so far the tally is 45 mm that will not increase as the month winds down heading into June on Thursday.
