The South Simcoe Police Service is investigating after two bodies were found at a Bradford home on Friday.

At 6:15 p.m., police responded to a Depeuter Crescent home for a well-being check, and found the deceased inside.

"The initial investigation has determined that this incident is related to intimate partner violence (IPV)," officers said in a release on Tuesday. "In the days before police arrival, the perpetrator, a male in his late 60s, killed his wife, who was in her late 50s, then committed suicide."

The South Simcoe Police Criminal Investigations Bureau is investigating the incident.

"The investigation has revealed the couple has lived in Bradford for several decades," officers said. " Over that time there were no prior police calls to this residence."

Police say no further information will be released, given the sensitive nature.

"Intimate partner violence (IPV) refers to any behaviour within an intimate relationship that causes physical, psychological, or sexual harm to those in the relationship. This can include acts of physical aggression, sexual coercion, psychological abuse, and controlling behaviours. IPV affects individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The impacts of IPV can lead to long-term physical and mental health issues, and it can perpetuate cycles of violence and trauma." officers said.

"There are community resources available to assist victims of IPV such as Women's shelters and your local police.  Women's shelters provide much more than just a safe place to live.  Most women's shelters provide 24-hour support, counselling and education. In addition, the support staff can assist victims with legal support. These programs help to break down barriers within our community with the goal of ensuring no one suffers alone and in silence."
