Toronto's Deborah Cox Inducted into Canadian Music Hall of Fame
Toronto's own Deborah Cox is making history, becoming the first black female artist to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall.
The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will present the R&B singer's award during the 51st Juno Awards at Toronto's Budweiser Stage.
Cox's career spans almost three decades, where she created several critically acclaimed albums and hit singles, including "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" and "Who Do U Love."
Reports say she has a new album on the horizon after laying low for a few years.
The 51st annual Juno Awards will be on May 15th on CBC.
Will Smith apologizes for Oscar Slap
Will Smith has apologized to Chris Rock for the now infamous Oscar slap.
Smith took to Instagram, saying violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line, and I was wrong."
"I am embarrassed, and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. “
During the awards, comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s Pinkett Smiths appearance, referencing "GI Jane" and her bald head.
Pinkett Smith has alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss.
Will Smith walked on stage slapping the comedian.
Shortly after, Smith won the Oscar for his role in “King Richard."
During his acceptance speech he apologized to the academy and fellow nominees for his actions.
Meanwhile, the motion picture academy is investigating the incident and considering punishment.
Taylor Swift gets honorary doctorate from NYU
Taylor Swift is about to get her first college degree.
The multi-Grammy award winner will receive an honorary doctorate of fine arts from New York University on May 18th.
Her official title will be Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa.
She’ll deliver a commencement speech to NYU graduates of 2022 during a ceremony at Yankee Stadium.
A separate ceremony will be held for graduating classes from 2021 and 2020 who couldn’t have a traditional ceremony due to the pandemic.
