Dedicated hotline established to answer Employment Insurance concerns as feds waive one-week waiting period

A dedicated Employment Insurance phone number should help answer any questions you have as COVID-19 affects our work day.

The dedicated phone line, 1-833-381-2725, has been established to answer questions regarding claims, or those looking to apply for EI benefits due to self-isolation, quarantine, if you’ve been laid off due to COVID-19 or are required to take time off to tend to your children.

Service Canada has waived a one-week waiting period for EI sickness benefits for anyone quarantined, meaning claimants can be paid for the first week of their claim. It says people claiming EI sickness benefits due to quarantine need not provide medical certificates.

Those who cannot complete their EI claim due to quarantine may still apply later and have the claim backdated.
