A costly need for speed.
Police laid seven charges, issued nearly $1,300 in fines which resulted in 11 demerit points during a traffic stop on June 28 on the Adjala Tecumseth Townline.
The vehicle was clocked travelling 85 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a Facebook post on Monday.
The speeding infraction was only the beginning.
Police allege that during the traffic stop they discovered a G1 driver behind the wheel who was unaccompanied by a licensed driver, six passengers in the vehicle with only five seats, four children in the backseat and none of them were wearing seatbelts, one infant in a car seat that was not anchored to the vehicle and the child was not strapped in.
"This level of disregard for basic road safety is unacceptable," police stated in the Facebook post.
The following charges were laid against the driver:
- Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver
- Class G1 licence holder - more passengers than seat belts
- Drive while passenger under 16 fails to occupy position with a seat belt

"Let this be a reminder: Road safety is not optional," police added in their social media post.
