Don't use LOL, OMG, BRB, or ROFL if you want to be taken seriously in your texts

If you want to sound more honest and receive more responses to your texts, you should spell out words rather than abbreviate them.

That's according to a recent study that says using abbreviations like LOL (laugh out loud) and BRB (Be right back) can make you seem insincere.

I'm sure no one has ever literally had you ROFL. ( rolling on the floor laughing)

Even though messages like OMG and LOL are a convenient way to convey emotion, they come off like you don't care about the topic. People are also less likely to reply because you're not putting in the effort yourself.

The American Psychological Association published their findings in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, in which they tracked text exchanges of more than 5,000 people.

Obviously, context matters, such as if you're texting with a long-time friend who knows your habits.

It's wise to not use abbreviations when corresponding with new friends or for work purposes.
