News release - Downtown Barrie BIA
The Downtown Barrie BIA is excited to announce and present a Gordon Lightfoot Tribute as part of the upcoming Open Air Dunlop on Saturday, September 9 2023 for the entire day.
The tribute will include ‘Sound and Sight’ of Gordon Lightfoot’s influential musical career.
Local musicians will be performing at Downtown venues from 9 am - 10 pm with Gordon Lightfoot-influenced and inspired setlists.
The Downtown Barrie BIA in partnership with Inside The Music is presenting Toronto-based singer/songwriter Jerry Leger, at the Meridian Place stage.
“Gordon Lightfoot has had such a huge impact on so many singer/songwriter’s. I am thrilled that Jerry Leger is taking the Meridian Place stage to celebrate Lightfoot’s music because Gordon is one of his most important influences. Jerry’s 2008 album, You, Me, and The Horse was inspired by Lightfoot’s 60’s acoustic records,” Chas Hay, Inside The Music promoter, said.
Followed by the Barrie Film Festival presentation of the documentary Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind.
“The Barrie Film Festival is honoured to participate in this tribute of the legendary singer and songwriter with an outdoor screening of a Canadian documentary that reflects so beautifully on his life and extraordinary career. ‘Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind’ is directed by Martha Kehoe and Joan Tosoni and features some of Lightfoot’s hits including “If You Could Read My Mind”, “Sundown”, “Carefree Highway”, and “Rainy Day People”. This is a must-see“ - Claudine Benoit, Director, Barrie Film Festival, said.
