Dr. Pepper is the second biggest soda brand, edging Pepsi from the long-held spot

Dr. Pepper has surpassed Pepsi to be the second biggest soda brand next to Coke.

Pepsi has been behind Coke for years, but now Dr. Pepper has inched past the cola brand.

The peppery soda, which has a blend of 23 flavours, has been growing in popularity for years. Last year, it introduced a popular new flavour: Strawberries and cream.

Coke is the leader by a huge margin. Last year, it captured 19.2% of the soda market in the United States by volume. Dr Pepper and Pepsi both had 8.3%, with Dr Pepper technically ahead. After that came other brands owned by Coca-Cola: Sprite came in at 8.1% and Diet Coke at 7.8%.
