Driver speeds off as Barrie police investigate suspicious activity

A person alerted police about two men taking pictures in the parking lot of a Bayfield Street department store

Barrie police are searching for two men who were the subject of a complaint by a person in the parking lot of a Bayfield Street department store around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The person told police that when he came out of a store and made his way to his car, he spotted the men taking pictures. The individual questioned the pair about their actions, and they left in what was described as a black Ford F-150 truck. The licence plate that was obtained did not belong to the vehicle.

When officers got to the parking lot, they were told the location of the pickup truck and as they approached it, the driver sped off at a high rate of speed. Due to the driver's actions, police determined it was unsafe to try and stop the vehicle, though investigators did obtain video and pictures of the driver and truck from a fast-food restaurant drive-thru lane.

Police say the pickup is a 2015-2020 Ford F-150 Supercab with black steel rims, mismatched tires on the driver's side and either painted or blackened licence plate covers.
