A 23-year-old man from Peterborough is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled a traffic stop when Ontario Provincial Police say they attempted to investigate a pickup truck on Highway 26.

During the incident around 3 p.m. Friday, police say they deployed a spike belt, damaging the vehicle, which was later found in a parking lot on Bayfield Street in Barrie. With help from Barrie Police, officers arrested the driver.

The suspect was charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Saturday.
