Barrie police say a "path of destruction" was left behind when a pickup truck northbound on Duckworth Street approaching Rose Street around 6 p.m. Wednesday struck the centre median, knocked over a traffic light pole, continued across the road, and stopped in a ravine adjacent to an apartment complex.

Police communications coordinator Peter Leon told Barrie 360 that a male driver and a female passenger fled the scene but were located by officers a short distance away.

A 24-year-old from Barrie has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with no insurance, careless driving and failing to remain.

Leon added neither person in the vehicle was injured.

He said the damage left behind by the truck required numerous hours to repair.
