Drone and drugs seized near Gravenhurst prison

Police say the suspect was arrested while searching for the drone

A drone that was flying in the area of the Beaver Creek Correctional Institution before crashing around 7 p.m. on Thursday caught the attention of residents who alerted police.

The OPP say they found a man who was trespassing and searching for the drone.

Officers say the drone was seized along with items that are banned inside the correctional facility.

A 24-year-old from Ottawa has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of Schedule 1 Substance For the Purpose of Trafficking, CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of Contraband before Visitor Control Point at a Penitentiary, CCRA 45(b)
  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis, CA 9(2)
  • Trespass by Night, CC177
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, CC354(1)(a)

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge in March.
