Drone utilized after reports of people on ice on Kempenfelt Bay

The last place to go for a stroll is on Kempenfelt Bay.

The Barrie Fire Department was called out twice Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. after they received calls from concerned people on shore seeing individuals on the ice.

As it turned out, the first call according to Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark resulted in no one being located on the ice.

Firefighters returned to the area at Centennial Beach a second time, and because it was dark, firefighters used a drone to locate heat signatures on the lake, and again nobody was found.

Clark told Barrie 360 they are urging people to avoid walking out onto Kempenfelt Bay.

It won't be abnormally mild this weekend, though Environment Canada says temperatures will be a few degrees above freezing on Saturday and Sunday, and overnight lows will hover around minus 3 or minus 4.

The normal high for this time of year is minus 4 and the normal low is minus 14.
