Drop in number of new local COVID cases after recent bump in Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit caseload

Two new cases in the region, one each in Barrie and Innisfil

After a recent spike with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), the number of COVID cases being added to its caseload has returned to single digits.

The SMDHU announced two new cases within its coverage area on Wednesday, a woman from Barrie and a man from Innisfil.

This comes following three days of double-digit additions to its caseload; eleven cases were added on Tuesday, twelve on Monday. The Health Unit announced a record-high 25 cases on Friday, partly attributing the rise to an outbreak at a farm in New Tecumseth.

With Wednesday’s two new cases, the SMDHU is also reporting another recovery in the region. To date, 81 percent of local residents have recovered.
