Canice Ejoh can officially call himself a gold glover.
The Barrie Baycats outfielder was given the honour for the first time on Thursday as the Canadian Baseball League announced its Gold Glove winners for the 2026 season.
He was the only Barrie Baycats player selected in a vote among the league's executives.
In 46 games, the 30-year-old committed just one error on 117 total chances for a .991 fielding percentage. All but one of those games spent on defense were spent in centre field, the other in left field.
Ejoh's defensive prowess was a big reason manager Josh Matlow kept him in the lineup for much of the second half of the season as Ejoh struggled massively at the plate.
Since earning the All-Star Game MVP award on July 12, Ejoh went 13-for-91 with eight RBI and no home runs. He also accumulated 39 strikeouts to just eight walks in that 23-game span en route to setting the CBL's single-season strikeout record at 79.
London led with four selections, while Welland Jackfish shortstop Brendan Luther was the only unanimous selection, the league says.
In 2025, the then-Intercounty Baseball League awarded Gold Gloves for the first time, when Ejoh had taken a year off baseball before returning to Barrie in 2026.
The Baycats had four Gold Glove winners in 2025: outfielders Tristan Clarke and Noel McGarry Doyle, first baseman Nolan Machibroda, and pitcher Frank Garcés.
