Elective surgeries expected to resume today at RVH

Some procedures were postponed due to cooling issue

Elective surgical procedures resume today (Wednesday) at Royal Victoria Hospital Regional Health Centre (RVH) in Barrie.

Procedures in ORs, endoscopy, cystoscopy and Surgical Treatment Clinic (STC) were cancelled Sunday after an issue with one of the hospital’s cooling units resulting in high temperature and humidity in older areas of the facility.

RVH cancels Monday and Tuesday non-urgent surgeries over cooling system malfunction

Many of the STC procedures have already been rescheduled and RVH will work with surgeons’ offices to reschedule all patients impacted by the system malfunction.
“Once again, RVH apologizes for any inconvenience resulting from the cancellation of non-emergency procedures, but patient safety must be our highest priority and we always err on the side of caution,” said Dr. Jeff Tyberg, RVH Chief of Staff.
