’She is alive’: Sister of abducted woman says family is still hopeful one year later

York Regional Police have arrested a 23-year-old Mississauga man in connection with the alleged assault of Elnaz Hajtamiri, who was abducted from a family member's home in Wasaga Beach three months ago.

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a second man.

Police say an arrest was made Wednesday and the suspect was charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

The search is continuing for a 23-year-old Brampton man.

At a news conference earlier this week, OPP said they had linked Hajtamiri's abduction with an assault in December when she was attacked with a frying pan in Richmond Hill. Police said they believed the same people were either involved in the abduction, or could identify those responsible.

The suspects in the December attack fled in a vehicle, which police have said was stolen in Toronto.

On January 12, Hajtamairi was snatched from a home on Trailwood Place by what OPP said were three black males dressed in police gear.

The suspects fled with Hajtamiri in what is believed to be a white, 2016-2022 model Lexus RX sport utility vehicle.

Her whereabouts remain a mystery.

At the news conference, investigators said they had no motive for the kidnapping, and there had been no ransom demand.
