Emergency orders extended by the province until June 9

There was a steep dip in new COVID-19 cases Monday after five straight days where cases topped 400

Bars and nightclubs will remain closed as the Ontario government has extended its COVID-19 emergency orders for another two weeks.

The emergency orders also include the closure of public swimming pools, outdoor playgrounds, as well as restrictions on social gatherings of more than five people.

“We are extending these emergency orders to protect the health and safety of all individuals and families as we begin to gradually and safely reopen our province,” Premier Doug Ford said.

“To build on the progress we have made to contain COVID-19, people should continue to follow these simple public health guidelines, practise physical distancing, wear a mask when it is a challenge to physical distance, and wash their hands regularly.”

There has not been a steady decline in caseloads for Ontario’s chief medical officer of health to allow more businesses to reopen and expand the size of allowable gatherings.
