Energy Board Idea Could Lead To $1,000 Increase To The Cottage Hydro Bill

OEB Wants to Phase Out Seasonal Rates

Keeping the lights on at the cottage could get a whole lot pricier.

The Ontario Energy Board is proposing Hydro One eliminate a seasonal rate class for property owners, expected to add about a thousand dollars a year in annual electricity bills to some customers.

The OEB says eliminating the seasonal rates would move customers to another class, leading to the cost increase. The Board is hoping that happens by the year 2024.

Hydro One is pushing against this proposal, according to reports, and is suggesting marginal increases per year instead.
