A quiet Saturday night turned tense on Donalda Street in Midland after two youths discovered what appeared to be a vintage military mortar, prompting a large police response and temporary evacuations.
OPP officers were called to the neighbourhood at approximately 11:00 p.m. after the youths brought the suspicious object into a nearby residence and an adult contacted police.
Donalda Street was temporarily closed, and police quickly cleared nearby homes as a precaution, while officers assessed the situation and contacted the OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU).

After consulting with EDU specialists, officers determined that the item was likely a non‑explosive military training device.
The device was removed from the residence and taken into police custody for proper disposal.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes, and Donalda Street was reopened by around 1:00 a.m.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
