
Fire tore through a Peter Street home in Elmvale around 1:30 Saturday afternoon.
When Springwater Township firefighters arrived at the scene, they encountered heavy flames and significant smoke from the residence with reduced visibility.
Firefighters entered the home to determine if anyone was inside, according to a media release from the township, but they were met with adverse fire conditions, which necessitated a defensive approach to subdue the fire.

There were no injuries, though a family cat perished.
Damage is estimated at $500,000. The cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical.
