A prominent Canadian television businessman and TV personality has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit, as has his wife.
The legal team behind the suit has confirmed to Barrie 360 that proceedings have been launched on behalf of the late Susanne Brito. The 48-year-old Uxbridge woman was one of two people killed following a boating collision on Lake Joseph in late August. The wrongful death suit seeks $2,000,000 in damages.
Around 11:30 on the night of August 24th, two private watercraft collided on Lake Joseph, causing serious injuries to Brito and a 64-year-old man from Florida. Both succumbed to their injuries shortly after the crash.
“Our family has lost a beautiful, loving person. We are devastated. We sincerely hope that through this process, that justice is served and that steps are taken so that innocent victims like Suzie, are not seriously injured and killed and that other families do not have to go through such pain and loss,” said Susanne’s mother, Rosa Ragone.
Two people have since been charged in connection to the collision; one man has been charged with Failing to Exhibit Navigation Lights, while a woman piloting a boat owned by Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary has been charged with Careless Operation of a Vessel. O’Leary has since stated he and his wife are cooperating with investigators.
