One dead following fiery crash in north Barrie

Richmond Hill man pronounced dead on scene

Police are looking for what led to a fiery crash in Barrie’s north end that claimed the life of a Richmond Hill man.

The Barrie Police Service, Barrie Fire and Emergency Services, and County of Simcoe Paramedics all rushed to the scene at around 11:50 p.m. Monday with reports of a single-vehicle collision. It appears a vehicle travelling north on Duckworth Street left the roadway just north of Georgian Drive and struck the southeast corner of the 400 overpass.

The collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames.

The driver and the vehicle’s only occupant, a 69-year-old man, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Duckworth Street was closed in both directions surrounding the crash until just after 7 a.m. Tuesday for police investigation. Officers are trying to determine why the vehicle left the roadway in the first place. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam video is asked to contact Constable Paul Matte of the Barrie Police Traffic Unit at 705-725-7025, extension 2912 or by email at
