A 52-year-old man was pronounced dead after a head-on crash involving two snowmobiles in Georgian Bay Township, OPP say.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP say they were contacted last night around 9:50 p.m. and responded to the crash scene on the ice surface waterway called Lost Channel.

"The involved drivers, one being a 52-year-old male of Erin, Ontario was pronounced deceased at a nearby marina after an exhaustive three-and-a-half-hour land-based rescue by EMS through the bush," OPP said in a release.

"The other driver, a 50-year-old male of Puslinch, Ontario was located near the crash scene and found to be uninjured."

Officers say they are investigating the cause of the crash.

"All snowmobile operators are reminded to Never Drive Impaired and to Know Before You Go while enjoying the sport," OPP said.
