Fire ban in Oro-Medonte as dry and warm weather sparks grass fires

Fire danger rating is high in several Simcoe County municipalities and in Muskoka

Days of sunshine and warm weather have been a blessing for many after a long winter, but it has also resulted in a high risk for fires.

The Township of Oro-Medonte has declared a fire ban because of the dangerous conditions which have resulted in several large brush and grass fires including one on Line 5 South early Friday evening.

The fire ban means all Open Air Burn Permits are suspended and any type of buring is prohibited.

While most municipalities in Simcoe County have a moderate fire danger rating, Innisfil and Bradford West Gwillimbury are listed as high.

The fire danger rating in Muskoka was raised to high earlier this week.
