Fire at homeless encampment in Barrie, one person airlifted to trauma centre

The fire call came in shortly after 9 a.m.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was on scene to investigate a fire at a homeless encampment at the back of 79 Anne Street South.

Barrie police spokesman Peter Leon told Barrie 360 that two individuals were transported to hospital and one has since been airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.

Leon says police, paramedics and fire were called to the scene around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

A Barrie Fire spokesperson said there was a shelter at the encampment made of tarps, but it appears it was used by one, maybe two individuals.
