
Up to 25 residents of a private retirement residence in Stayner were evacuated by staff after a fire erupted in the building around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
The building is located on Highway 26, between Scott Street and John Street. The road is closed because of the fire.
A church across the street took in the residents and staff of the residence.
Several residents were injured exiting the residence and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
