Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges in connection with a fire Tuesday night at a two-storey building in downtown Midland.
The fire at 288 King Street occured in a commercial building with apartments on the second floor.
The occupants escaped the flames without injury.
Four people were left homeless.
The blaze caused extensive water and smoke damage to the apartments and lower level of the building.
The Ontario Fire Marshal was called in to assist with the investigation.
On Friday, a 36-year-old man of no fixed address from Midland was charged with the following:
- arson - disregard for human life
- break and enter
- fail to comply with a probation order
The accused remains in custody and will appear in court at a future date.
"Investigators wish to thank those community membmers who provided valuable assistance during this ongoing investigation," police stated in a news release on Saturday.
