First coronavirus death in Europe

The victim is an 80 year old Chinese tourist

An 80 year old Chinese tourist visiting France has died of the coronavirus.

The man was from China’s Hubei province, where the majority of cases have been reported.

He arrived in France mid-January and was placed in quarantine at a Paris hospital a few days later.

The French health minister said his daughter was also infected with the virus, officially known as Covid-19, but she is making a recovery.

In China, the virus has killed more than 1,500 people and infected over 67,000 others.

Meanwhile, 67 people on board the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan have tested positive for the illness–bringing the number of cases from the ship to 286 including several Canadians.

Passengers on the ship will be allowed to leave over several days beginning February 21, though the Americans will be sending a charter flight to Japan on Sunday to pick up its citizens.
