Five more cases of COVID in Simcoe-Muskoka as local uptick continues

"We're definitely on an upward trajectory at this time."

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) confirmed five more cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday as a local spike in cases continues.

“I think it’s worth noting that this is a very substantial increase in our case count,” said SMDHU medical officer of health Dr. Charles Gardner on Tuesday. “We’ve not had a weekly increase of this magnitude since June 21.”

There have been eleven cases so far this week, and it is only Tuesday; twenty-two cases were reported the week of August 24 and 11 the week before that. Before that, four cases all week, “We’re definitely on an upward trajectory at this time,” added Gardner.

Tuesday’s caseload addition was comprised of three cases in Barrie and two in New Tecumseth.

Meanwhile, Public Health Ontario confirmed 112 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario on Tuesday. There were 92 more recoveries and one more death since Monday’s update.
