Five-year prison term for driving death of Beeton man

Eight-year driving ban also imposed

A Newmarket man, convicted of Criminal Negligence Causing Death in the driving death of a Beeton man, has been sentenced to a five-year prison term.

Court heard Tyler Nielson, now 21, was impaired by alcohol, had traces of marijuana and sleeping pills in his system, and was travelling 227 kmh – on the wrong side of the road. His vehicle struck another driven by 28-year-old old Stuart Ellis. The married father of one, with another child on the way, was pronounced dead at the scene (Highway 48/Davis Drive).

Nielson has also been banned from driving for eight years after his release from prison.
