Suspect sought after food truck fire in south end

Suspect is described as a white male, with either dark hair or a dark-coloured hat, wearing dark clothing and a backpack

Barrie Police is investigating a fire at a food truck at the south end Canadian Tire in Barrie – asking the public’s help identifying a suspect.

On Monday, July 11, just after 2:30 a.m., police along with firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 75 Mapleview Drive West.

Upon arrival, a food trailer, which operates daily from a reserved section of the parking lot was located on fire and crew quickly extinguished the flames.

Later that morning, detectives say they attended nearby businesses and canvassed for any video surveillance that could identify a suspect.

Police say video captured an image of a male on a mountain-style bike as he travelled eastbound on the south sidewalk of Mapleview Drive West just before 2:20 a.m.

The suspect is described as a white male, with either dark hair or a dark-coloured hat, wearing dark clothing and a backpack.

According to officers, the suspect may have been injured, and could have been burned as a result of the arson.

Although the pictures are not clear, it is possible that someone travelling in the area at that time may have seen the suspect or captured him on dash camera video.
