A new 3.5-hectare community park is now open in Innisfil, including the town’s first enhanced wheelchair-accessible playground.
Margaretta Park officially opened Tuesday in the Sleeping Lion development.
The park was championed by the Innisfil Accessibility Advisory Committee, which calls it a “champion park” because of its focus on accessibility and inclusion.

The fully accessible playground has rubberized surfacing and specialized equipment designed to provide roll-on access for wheelchair users.
The park also includes a splash pad, washrooms, multi-use trails, shade structures, picnic areas, naturalized plantings and trees, and open green space.
Innisfil has included accessible play equipment in all new and replacement playgrounds since 2016, but the town says Margaretta Park brings a wider range of inclusive features together in one location.
The park is named for the late Margaretta Papp-Belayneh, a former chair of the Innisfil Accessibility Advisory Committee whose work on accessibility helped inspire the project.
The Innisfil Beach Cruisers Car Club also donated $12,000 toward the project.
Margaretta Park is at 1110 Cole Street, north of 6th Line and east of 20th Sideroad.
Future phases are expected to add more amenities.
