A gas leak that resulted in the evacuation of the downtown branch of the Barrie Public Library has been capped.

A library spokesperson told Barrie 360 that they plan to reopen the branch around 5 p.m. today (Tues).

A gas leak in the area of Worsley and Owen Streets prompted firefighters to evacuate the downtown branch of the Barrie Public Library.

There is no word if other buildings in the area were evacuated.

The gas leak occurred around 10:45 a.m. when a line was severed by an excavator at a construction site.

Deputy Fire Chief Eric MacFadden told Barrie 360 the size of the evacuation, among other things, is determined by the direction of the wind.
