Gas prices are expected to rise at midnight, as the fallout from the conflict in the Middle East comes home to roost.
According to Canadians for Affordable Energy, the pump price will climb six cents at midnight in Barrie, to an average of 139.9 cents/litre.
The initial spike is being attributed to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
There could be more pump pain later in the week. Analysts predict there could be another six-cent increase on Thursday as the shock from the Strait of Hormuz closure and retaliatory strikes in the Middle East continues to filter through to retail prices.
In the United States, the average price for a gallon of gasoline jumped 11 cents overnight Tuesday to about $3.11, according to the American Automobile Association.
