Geared up: Georgian College Auto Show returns

Georgian College Auto Show

Get geared up for the weekend of June 7th.

The Georgian College Auto Show, a yearly event put on by the Automotive Business School of Canada, which is at Georgian College, is making a return.

Luke Reymer, Student Director of Media and Marketing Relations, told Barrie 360 the show's uniqueness is that it's student-run.

"Each year they choose five student directors to organize the whole thing," said Reymer. "Then we have all the students in the program help out and work the booths, and all of the big car brands come and bring their booths and they show off their new cars."

Reymer says the event showcases a variety of vehicles.

"The big thing is it's a non-selling show," said Reymer. "A lot of families come to the event to see the newest models.

"In one area you get to see over 300 cars and there's no pressure from salesmen. You don't need to go from dealership to dealership. You ask the students questions, they know what the answers are, and you get no pressure."

The student director also mentioned a kid zone is available.

"It's just a fun time," said Reymer. "We have mini dirtbikes this year, we have bouncy house obstacle courses, we have Brampton Batman coming - he's got his Batmobile - it's pretty cool. You get to see all these cars and learn more about the industry and what car you possibly want to get."

What's new to this year's show?

"We got over 50 supercars coming on Sunday," said Reymer. "For an extra $5 you get to experience all the supercars. You get to ask the owners questions about their cars and some of them might even take you for a ride."

He added they will also have their Porsche Drift Track for those who want to go for a ride.

"This year we have Porsche 911s. The pro driver drives you around a track and get a little sideways. Free too with the general admission tickets, get to experience everything there."

And Reymer says don't forget about the Show N' Shine on Saturday too.

"People will be able to enter their cars to show them off," he said.

"In the morning we'll have classic and muscle cars, and in the evening, after 2 p.m., we'll have tuners and modern cars. We have a bunch of car clubs coming, showing off their cool whips. If you're not interested in buying a new car, just come over to check out the cool cars."

The show is at the Georgian College Barrie Campus, 1 Georgian Drive, and runs June 7th to 9th.

"It might not sound too exciting to some people, but this is a huge show," said Reymer. "It's North America's largest outdoor student-run auto show. You don't get to see this every day."
