Masks will be an option, but students and staff returning to Georgian College for the fall semester won't be bound by a vaccination policy.
In an email to Barrie 360, the school says its vaccination policy was suspended on Apr. 23.
"Georgian will continue to monitor the situation in our communities and will follow the advice and direction from public health and government authorities," stated a Georgian spokesperson.
This direction is quite different from Western University in London where staff and students returning to campus in September will be required to wear masks in classrooms and have at least one booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The university has issued an updated policy that requires a booster dose -- usually equivalent to a third shot -- for students, employees and visitors to its campus.
Western also says masks will be required in instructional spaces except when someone is presenting, performing, facilitating, or speaking to a group -- a policy it says will be reassessed after the Thanksgiving weekend.
The policy comes weeks after the University of Toronto announced it would require those living in residences to have a booster shot, and recommended all others keep their vaccinations up to date.
