Grant to Support Youth-Led Initiatives In Clearview

Teens to Run Booth at Farmers' Market, Promoting Healthy Food Options

The Clearview Youth Centre is on the receiving end of a $5,000 grant.

The money coming from the RBC Future Launch Community Challenge, while Clearview was only one of five small- and medium-sized communities to receive the funding for youth-led initiatives.

“With our RBC Future Launch grant, the Clearview Youth Centre will create a new youth-led food security initiative,” said Youth Centre Coordinator, Courtney Rogers. “Youth will be involved in choosing recipes, shopping for supplies, cooking/baking, and enjoying meals together in our new cooking classes. This grant will also include creating a healthy snack program at our drop-in program where the youth would be responsible for researching, choosing items and preparing them.”

As part of the initiative, kids aged 15 to 18 will be participating in Clearview’s Farmers Markets, starting in June 2020. There, a Youth Centre booth will showcase their baked goods and items. “The grant will assist our efforts by helping to educate and provide youth with healthy food options and habits, but most importantly to create a community of healthy youth,” added Rogers.
