An OPP investigation in Gravenhurst has resulted in a large seizure of goods and the arrests of two individuals in relation to drug trafficking.
Police says its North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) initiated an investigation this winter regarding the distribution of illicit drugs throughout the Almaguin Highlands and Muskoka areas.
On Tuesday, officers located a suspect vehicle at a plaza on Muskoka Street, where they subsequently arrested its two occupants.
The vehicle was searched and police seized 1.5 kilograms of suspected fentanyl (approximate street value $295,000), six kilograms of suspected amphetamine tablets (approximate street value $75,000), 66 grams of suspected cocaine (approximate street value $6,600), $1,070 of Canadian currency, three cell phones, and a digital scale.
The investigation yielded the arrest of a 60-year-old man from Bolton and a 43-year-old woman from Huntsville. Both are facing charges for possessing cocaine, amphetamine, and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, while the man is facing an additional charge of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Each suspect was held for a bail hearing and appeared before court on Wednesday.
