Provincial police are investigating a threat that placed a Gravenhurst elementary and high school into a hold and secure.

Bracebridge OPP responded yesterday at 12:40 p.m. to reports from the high school's administrative team about the incident.

"Several young people had attended the school property near Sharpe Street, got into a conflict with students and made threats, referencing a weapon," OPP stated in a media release. "No weapon was seen by students."

Police say they worked with the school team and put the high school and a nearby elementary school into a hold and secure.

"A hold and secure restricts the movements of everyone, staff and students are not permitted to leave the building and more importantly, no one is allowed to enter the school building," OPP said.

"Staff and students continue their learning and activities inside the school building during a hold and secure. This is a step that is taken to ensure the safety of the school community while police work to resolve the situation."

Through interviews with students, according to OPP, the involved young people were identified and located.

"They were co-operative with police and officers were able to confirm that they were not in possession of weapons," police wrote. "The hold and secure was lifted just prior to the end of the school day."

OPP continue to investigate the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at crimestopperssdm.com.
